The brief for the expansive 9000 sq.ft Duplex was short and encapsulated the essence of the client’s a la mode lifestyle – The house must maintain a sense of sophisticated grandeur. The challenge was to design a home catering to the diverse needs of a joint family of 3 generations. The design is a reflection of this diversity & is understood through a series of contrasts expressed through planning, colors, textures and materials.
The 1500 sq.ft Ground floor congregation space with a sliding folding partition divides the space into a formal Drawing area and a double height Dining & Family Living Space, which can also be used as one, for a larger get together. Besides these, the Ground floor includes the kitchen, puja room, two bedrooms and a powder.
The double height volume visually connects the first floor gallery with the family living & dining space on the ground floor. The First floor consists of three bedrooms, home theatre & study. Privacy to the owner’s bedrooms & study is maintained through a frosted glass & wood framed, double leaf door.
Layering of surfaces, contrast between matt and glossy finishes, soft furnishing balanced with statement accessories, artworks and artifacts embellish the home.
